Back to School Safety Tips
Posted September 16th, 2022 by SimpliSafe
Summer is coming to an end as quickly as it began. That only means one thing: Back to school season! Parents and children across the country are packing lunches, catching the bus, creating extracurricular activities schedules, coordinating drop-off-pick-up car pools, and more. As a part of our commitment to keep you and your family safe no matter what time of the year, we put together a few safety tips to keep you and your family safe.
Walkers and Bike Riders
Sometimes it’s not always possible to drop your children off at school. (We get it! Crazy schedules, work, commutes… It's a lot!) It’s important to make sure your children get to and from school safely. According to the National Safety Council, here are a few safety tips to share with your kids if they walk or bike to school.
Always have a buddy - never walk alone.
If you ride a bike, always wear a helmet.
Walkers: Stay on the sidewalk! If there is no sidewalk, stay close to the curb and walk on the side facing traffic.
Riders: Ride on the right side of the road in a single file line.
Stop, look left, then right before crossing the street.
Try your best to make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
Always use crosswalks.
Stay alert!
Bus Safety
Walking and biking aren’t always an option, so bus safety is just as important! If you have little ones that are taking the school bus for the first time, it’s important to review basic safety rules.
To start, go to the bus stop with your child to teach them the proper way to get on and off the bus. With time, if you trust your child to get on the bus independently, you can watch their journey on our Outdoor Camera if pick up is visible from your home.
Teach your children to stand three giant steps (or 6ft) away from the curb.
If your child must cross the street in front of the bus, teach them to walk on the side of the road until they are ahead of the bus.
Staying Safe with SimpliSafe
We mean it when we say There’s no safe like SimpliSafe. Whether you work long hours, work from home, or are always on the go, our cameras and sensors can give you the peace of mind that your kids are safely home from school.
Creating custom PINs on the Keypad gives you the knowledge of who exactly is coming into your home and when. For example, if you have after school extracurriculars, playdates, or babysitters your kids and other trusted adults can be assigned their own custom PIN code without compromising the integrity of your main PIN.
If you are not home when your children get home after school, the entry and motion sensors are a great way to know that they are safe. If you know your child is home and an uncommon entry way or window is opened, you will be alerted - giving you the opportunity to contact your child to make sure everything is safe or send dispatch immediately.
With the Video Doorbell Pro, you can see exactly when your kids leave and return from school. You can even tell them to hurry up to catch the bus through the two-way-audio feature.
